Every letter of the script alphabet
Eleven letters in this alphabet come from the older Letterlike Symbols block rather than the Mathematical Script range: the capitals B, E, F, H, I, L, M and R, and the lowercase e, g and o. Words that contain them โ Rose, Emily, Hello, Love โ mix two sources of glyphs, and on Windows (Segoe UI Symbol) and some Android fonts the borrowed ones sit a little heavier or more ornate. Digits pass through unchanged because Unicode never encoded script digits. Accented letters (รฉ, รฑ, รผ) also pass through unchanged: there is no script รฉ, so a name like Josรฉ becomes ๐ฅโด๐รฉ with a plain รฉ at the end.

What this alphabet actually is
This is the plain cursive alphabet most people picture when they search for cursive text: thin, connected-looking strokes with open loops on the ascenders. Every letter comes from the Unicode Mathematical Script range, which was designed for mathematicians who needed a distinct 'script' variable style โ and which turned out to be the closest thing Unicode has to handwriting.
Eleven of its letters (โฌ โฐ โฑ โ โ โ โณ โ โฏ โ โด) were already encoded as maths symbols years before the rest, so they live in a different block and are drawn from a different table in your device's symbol font. On most systems they match closely; on a few they are noticeably more ornate. If a capital B or R looks heavier than its neighbours, that is why โ switch to bold cursive, whose alphabet is complete, if you need the weight to be even.
Script has no digits of its own, so numbers pass through unchanged. Punctuation, spaces, emoji and accented letters also pass through untouched, which keeps sentences readable.

Instagram, Discord, X and TikTok
On Instagram the light script alphabet reads cleanly in the bio and in captions, where the type is large enough for the thin strokes; in the display name, which Instagram renders smaller and bolder, a whole name in light script can look faint next to plain text, so many people use it for the second line rather than the first. Discord renders it at full weight in display names, statuses and channel titles. On X it shows in the display name and bio and survives quote-posts. TikTok accepts it in the nickname and bio; TikTok's default font gives the borrowed capitals (โฌ โฐ โฑ โ โ โ โณ โ) a slightly heavier stroke than the rest, which is the most visible seam in this style.
When the letters do not appear
If a light-script name shows as boxes or one capital looks wrong at the destination, switch to bold cursive: its alphabet has no borrowed letters, so it renders evenly wherever the light one renders at all. If the field rejects the text outright โ a username, a hashtag, a form that whitelists characters โ nothing on this site will get through, because the rejection is about Unicode as such; the fix is to keep that field plain and use the cursive version in a bio or display name instead. For a printed or designed piece, a real script typeface (Great Vibes, Allura) will always beat pasted characters.

Why is my capital B a different shape from the other letters?
Capital B, E, F, H, I, L, M and R, plus lowercase e, g and o, come from the older Letterlike Symbols block. Your device's font draws them separately, so they can look more decorative than the rest of the alphabet.
Does cursive script work in an Instagram username?
No. Usernames only accept plain letters, numbers, underscores and periods. Use it in the display name or bio instead.
Will numbers turn cursive too?
Not in this style โ the Unicode script alphabet has letters only. Bold cursive substitutes bold digits so numbers keep the same weight as the letters.
Can I mix cursive script with plain text in one bio?
Yes โ convert only the words you want styled and paste them into the middle of a plain sentence. Cursive letters are ordinary characters, so they sit alongside plain ones without any separator.
Does cursive script count as more characters than plain text?
In most platform character limits, no: each cursive letter is one Unicode character, the same as a plain letter. A few systems count UTF-16 units instead, in which case each cursive letter counts as two. The counter on this page counts characters as you see them.
